Elementary school children of Korean heritage who live outside Korea, such as Korean-American, Korean-Canadian and Korean-Australian families. Children who speak little Korean are welcome.

In Yangyang, a rural seaside county in Gangwon-do on Korea's east coast, about 3 hours from Incheon Airport. Children spend part of every day at Sonyang Elementary School, a public school of 42 students, with local Korean children.
강원도 동해안의 바닷가 지역인 양양에서 합니다. 인천공항에서 차로 약 3시간 거리입니다. 아이들은 매일 전교생 42명의 공립학교인 손양초등학교에서 한국 친구들과 함께 지냅니다.
Does my child need to speak Korean?

Some exposure to Korean helps, but it is not required. Korean classes are matched to each child's level.

Some program schedules may be adjusted according to changes in the school calendar. Sonyang Elementary School confirms its summer vacation dates in February 2027, and only the days around the start of vacation may shift. We will share the confirmed schedule with families after February.

What happens when Korean schools go on summer vacation?

Until summer vacation, children attend school as usual. For the two or three days the school is closed at the start of vacation, our team runs the program from our base in Sonyang-yang, with Korean class and lunch, plus outings (Naksansa, beach day, DMZ) and the job project. After that, until July 30, children spend 10:00 to 14:00 in Sonyang Elementary School's vacation program with their friends (lunch included), followed by our camp classes in the afternoon. The exact dates are set in February 2027.
여름방학 전까지는 평소처럼 학교에 다닙니다. 방학이 시작되고 학교가 쉬는 2~3일 동안은 손양캠프가 손양양 2층을 베이스로 한국어 수업과 점심, 낙산사·해변 데이·DMZ 같은 외출과 직업 프로젝트를 직접 운영합니다. 그 뒤로 7월 30일까지는 10:00–14:00 손양초등학교 방학 프로그램에 친구들과 함께 참여하고(점심 포함), 오후에는 캠프 수업을 합니다. 정확한 날짜는 2027년 2월에 정해집니다.

Campers work alongside Korean professionals and adult participants on a real job. The jobs available in Yangyang are farmer, carpenter and 3D printing specialist, and which job runs in which week will be set in February. Children receive a certificate at graduation. The project runs twice a week: mornings in school-term weeks and on school-closed days, afternoons in vacation-program weeks.
캠프 아이들이 한국의 현업 전문가, 성인 참가자들과 함께 실제 직업을 체험합니다. 양양캠프에서 체험할 수 있는 직업은 농부, 목수, 3D 프린팅 전문가이며, 주차별로 어떤 직업을 할지는 2월에 확정합니다. 수료식에서 수료증을 받습니다. 주 2회 진행하며, 학기 중과 학교 쉬는 날에는 오전, 방학 프로그램 주간에는 오후에 합니다.

No. You can choose the weeks that work for your family on the application form, from 1 to 6 weeks. The longer children stay, the more at home they feel.

How much does the camp cost?

The 2027 Season 2 program fee is the same as 2026 Season 1: $1,000 per child per week. Optional extras: golf lessons (₩100,000 per session) and surf lessons (₩100,000 including board rental, wetsuit rental and lesson) are booked and paid in Korean won in Korea; the airport transfer ($500 per van, one way) is booked in advance and paid in US dollars with the program fee. Accommodation, flights and travel insurance are not included.
2027 2기 참가비는 2026 1기와 같이 아동 1인 1주 $1,000입니다. 선택 사항: 골프 레슨(회당 ₩100,000)과 서핑 레슨(보드·수트 렌탈과 강습 포함 ₩100,000)은 한국에서 원화로 결제하고, 공항 픽업(편도 밴 1대 $500)은 오시기 전에 참가비와 함께 달러로 결제합니다. 숙소, 항공권, 여행자보험은 포함되지 않습니다.

Yes. A parent or guardian must stay in Yangyang during the camp, because children go to school and come home every day.

Each family arranges its own accommodation. On request, we can also offer accommodation within walking distance of the school, at a separate charge.

Yangyang is on Korea's northeast coast, about 3 hours from Incheon Airport by car or express bus. We offer a private 15-seat van from Incheon Airport to your accommodation in Yangyang ($500 per van, one way).

Yes, travel insurance is required for all participants. We recommend a plan that covers medical emergencies in Korea and trip cancellation if something unexpected happens before departure.

What is the cancellation policy?

Sonyang Summer Camp is a small-group program, so places are limited. Registration is confirmed once the full program fee is received. If you cancel at least 60 days before the start date, 50% of the fee is refunded. If we have to cancel the camp, the full fee is refunded.
손양 썸머캠프는 소규모 몰입형 프로그램으로, 프로그램 특성상 참가 인원을 제한합니다. 따라서 등록은 프로그램 비용 전액 수령 후 확정됩니다. 취소 시, 프로그램 시작 60일 이전에는 비용의 50%가 환불됩니다. 운영 측 사정으로 프로그램이 취소될 경우 100% 환불됩니다.
