Sonyang Summer Camp is a one-of-a-kind immersive elementary school experience for children of Korean heritage. Participating children will have an opportunity to attend a Korean public elementary school, participate in some of the school's programs and activities, and make friends with local students. Through this immersive experience, the children will be exposed to elementary school culture of their heritage, an experience that can expand how they view their heritage as they grow older.
With an entire student body of 42 students, the school fosters a unique culture where teachers and school staff know every student personally. Participating children will be in a safe and welcoming environment, with all of their experiences at the school to be under sufficient guardian oversight. In addition, their participation at the school is meaningful and impactful to local students as well.
The children will make school friends, participate in extra-curricular programs, have lunch together, and take away a real elementary school experience in Korea. This summer camp can be an experience that can stay with the participating children for a long time.
The school is located in Yangyang, Gangwon-do, a rural northeast seashore province of Korea, where an aging community is mixed with emerging young and vibrant culture created by young surfing community in Korea. This dynamic makes Yangyang a truly unique place in Korea, placing it as surfing mecca of Korea, offering diverse activity, cultural, and entertainment venues that are quite unique, and has something to offer for every member of the family.
손양 썸머캠프는 재외동포 아동을 위한 단 하나뿐인 한국 공립초등학교 몰입 체험 프로그램입니다. 참가 아동은 한국 공립초등학교에 등교하고, 학교의 프로그램과 활동에 참여하며, 현지 학생들과 친구를 사귈 기회를 갖게 됩니다. 이 몰입 체험을 통해 아이들은 자신의 헤리티지인 한국 초등학교 문화를 직접 경험하고, 자라면서 자신의 헤리티지를 바라보는 시각을 넓혀나갈 수 있습니다.
전교생 42명의 손양초등학교는 선생님과 교직원이 모든 학생을 개별적으로 알고 있는 독특한 문화를 가지고 있습니다. 참가 아동은 안전하고 포용적인 환경 속에서 학교 생활을 경험하며, 보호자의 충분한 관리 아래 모든 활동이 이루어집니다. 또한 참가 아동의 존재는 현지 학생들에게도 의미 있고 소중한 경험이 됩니다.
아이들은 학교 친구를 사귀고, 방과후 프로그램에 참여하고, 함께 급식을 먹으며, 한국에서의 진짜 초등학교 생활을 경험하고 돌아갑니다. 이 썸머캠프는 참가 아동들의 마음속에 오래도록 남을 경험이 될 것입니다.

Monday to Friday at Sonyang Elementary. An experience that can stay with children for a long time and expand their view of Korean heritage as they grow older. 월요일부터 금요일, 손양초등학교에서 진행됩니다. 오래도록 기억에 남고, 자라면서 한국을 바라보는 시각을 넓혀줄 경험입니다.

Yangyang is Korea's surf capital. Local beaches where people actually surf — Jukdo Beach is quieter and more local.양양은 한국 서핑의 중심지입니다. 리조트가 아닌 진짜 로컬 해변에서, 현지 사람들과 함께 파도를 탈 수 있어요. 죽도해변은 더 조용하고 로컬한 분위기입니다.

It is highly recommended that the child has been exposed to Korean language. However, it is not absolutely necessary. A bilingual program manager will be on-site every day and the Korean sessions are matched to each child's Korean language level. 한국어에 어느 정도 노출된 경험이 있으면 더욱 좋습니다. 다만 필수는 아닙니다. 이중언어 매니저가 매일 함께하며, 한국어 수업은 아이의 수준에 맞게 진행됩니다.

Yes, travel insurance is required for all participants. Sonyang Summer Camp is a small group focused immersive experience, and we limit the number of participants due to the nature of the program. Therefore, registration is confirmed upon receipt of the full program fee. For cancellation, 50% of the fee is refunded 60 days before the program's start date. If the camp program needs to be cancelled for some reason, 100% of the fee is refunded. 손양 썸머캠프는 소규모 몰입형 프로그램으로, 프로그램 특성상 참가 인원을 제한합니다. 따라서 등록은 프로그램 비용 전액 수령 후 확정됩니다. 취소 시, 프로그램 시작 60일 이전에는 비용의 50%가 환불됩니다. 운영 측 사정으로 프로그램이 취소될 경우 100% 환불됩니다.
